PROFILE

​

My name is Pieter van der Vlies. After my laboratory training in Biotechnology, I worked for a long time at the department of Medical Genetics of the University of Groningen. I started as a research technician, later I worked as Coordinating Technician in the DNA diagnostics group.

I am always attracted to new technologies. So when I got the chance to join the new Array facility of the University Medical Center in Groningen, I immediately took it up. Some years later, this facility merged with the Sequencing facility. This resulted in a Genomics facility of which I became general manager. Those were great times: we were involved in large-scale studies using Array based genotyping and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
After almost 30 years in the academia, I have chosen to apply my knowledge in the Agri sector. Currently, I am working at HZPC (Word Class Potatoes!) as a Molecular Biology Scientist, with a focus on NGS applications. 

 

Over the years, I have built up a track record in introducing new technologies in the field of DNA and RNA analysis. I am happy to make this experience available to laboratories, to take the next step.
